Bamboonanza

Bamboonanza is named for the uniquely shaped bamboo pot used.  It is painted terracotta and textured like a real bamboo segment.  It houses a Senecio medley-woodii.  This is a fabulous plant with bright, yellow daisylike flowers, which is extremely rare for this genus.  It flowers in the winter in the northern hemisphere and provides a welcome source of color in the dreary winter months.  The leaves are an olive green and irregularly toothed.  Leaves have a layer of white floss, giving them a silvery look.  This plant is native to South Africa and is quite rare.  It can get up to 6' tall if removed from the pot and planted in the ground.  However, it will happily stay in the pot and remain a manageable size.  The pot needed to be drilled on the bottom to provide crucial drainage.  Due to the unusual convex shape of the bottom of the pot, a larger than intended hole was drilled.  This is actually more beneficial to the plant.  Water weekly in the summer and reduce to once a month in the winter.  Keep soil dry to prevent root rot.
