Draken

Draken is Cissus tubersosa beautiful dragon vase/stein that has been turned into a pot.  This pot is of Chinese origin and is inscribed with Chinese characters along the body.  The handle is shaped into a dragon.  C. tuberosa is a fantastic plant to keep.  It belongs to the grape family of plants, though it never produces graces.  It does, however, produce a caudex (thickened trunk, sometimes in the shape of a sphere) which sends out vines of elegant multilobed leaves.  The vines can get up to 15 feet long! Although it is recommended that it be trimmed to a length that is more manageable.  Keep in mind that whatever you cut off will also root and grow into another plant.  The caudex gets thicker and bigger over the years.  Collectors try to cultivate the largest caudex they can.  This plant is deciduous and will drop the leaves off the vines in winter.  It will resprout vines and leaves in the spring.  This plant is very easy to maintain.  Water up to once a week in the height of summer and proportionately decrease to nothing in the rainy/wet months.  Keep from freezing.
