St. Nick

St. Nick is an unspecified, hook-spined Mammillaria in an olive green, rectangular pot.  This is a smallish species and will eventually form a nice cluster.  It already has five prominent pups, which if viewed from the top, from the appendages of Old St Nick himself.  And due to the hooked nature of the spines, this plant is very safe to the touch for a cactus.  The spines hook back toward the plant itself and away from unsuspecting owners.  Mammillarias are quite easy to care for.  Place in full sun or partial shade.  Water once a week and fertilize with 1/4 strength fertilizer in the summer.  Once a year, each head will sprout a ring of flowers near the crown.
